How to use The Incredible Capt'n Jim's  Crab Stik

The other way is very much preferred on the East Coast. Those folks usually always steam their crabs. Here again, you need a large pot. You also need something in the bottom to keep the crabs out of the liquid. A steaming basket is perfect! Add some water, half a can of beer and a half-cup of vinegar. You might even add some bay leaves. Bring this to boil so it will start steaming. Now, start adding the live crabs, sprinkle each crab with about 1 tbls. of Old Bay seasoning. Cover and steam for about 20 min. or until the crabs turn bright red.

Text Box: Now we should have a pile of cooked blue crabs. Next we need to clean these babies. Perhaps a little anatomy is in order before we continue. First, middle below, we have the underside of a mature female blue crab. Remember, NEVER, NEVER keep females with eggs! The eggs will look like a bright orange sponge ball over her apron. Notice her apron is shaped just like the Capitol dome! On the right below, we have a male blue crab. Notice his apron is shaped like the Washington monument! Both are great to eat!

O.K. Now we are ready to clean our crabs. (A) Pry up the apron with your finger or Crab Stikä and fold back.  (B) Grasp the crab body with one hand and the shell with the other, then simply pull the shell off as shown below. (C) Next, we need to clean out the guts and dead men (lungs). This is easy. Use your fingers to tear off the dead men and then scoop out the guts from the center depression of the crab.
